Swan Lodge | A luxury hot tub retreat for couples set by the beautiful Chesterfield Canal

Take some time out to relax by water and woodland, at this luxury retreat. We love its toasty wood-burning stove, its show-stopping gilded super king size bed, and its outdoor hot tub, just for starters. With easy train links from London to nearby Doncaster station, this is a great city escape destination – and it’s equally only around an hour from Leeds, Hull and Sheffield.

Once you’ve found your way down between the trees to this beautiful log cabin, you can hang up your cares because everything is ready and waiting for you. Swan Lodge owners have designed this two acre site to cater exclusively for couples – with only one other lodge on the Hawthorn Hideaway grounds, making it perhaps more likely you’ll see a kingfisher or hear an owl than to spot another person while you’re here. And now there is also an aromatherapy steam room exclusively for the use of Hawthorn Hideaway guests.

Hop up on the lodge’s large raised decking area and you’ll find your own covered hot tub – perfect for a laid back start to your holiday, and lazy afternoons in the bubbles.

Head inside Swan Lodge and you’ll find a comfortable and stylish interior, with everything you’ll need for a relaxing time away. There’s a super king bed, with gilt scrollwork making it a real feature, along with an extra deep mattress. Across from here you’ll find a space to cosy up in the evenings, with a leather Chesterfield sofa in front of a wood burning stove. This retreat has central heating too, so you’ll be toasty all through your stay.

Aside from this, the lodge has a large walk in shower, with complimentary quality eco toiletries, fluffy towels and bathrobes.

Keep your eye out for treats in the kitchen space, where the lodge owners will have left you their speciality breakfast hamper – complete with local produce like free range eggs, bacon and sausages, teas, coffees and more. Here, you’ll also find a well equipped cooking area, complete with microwave cooker, fridge ice box and a dishwasher.

Outside, you’ll find your own garden space with a large rotating day bed, ideal for relaxing on sunny days and listening to the woodland birdsong all around the cabin. You might spot a kingfisher darting across the nearby pond if you keep your eyes peeled. There’s also a fire bowl barbecue for alfresco lunches. If you’re looking for an extra way to surprise your partner, you can also reserve the use of an onsite wood-burning sauna or the site’s indoor barbecue cabin.​ There’s also a rowing boat for hire; perfect for a romantic picnic or even a proposal on the water.

From here, you are a stone’s throw from Chesterfield Canal, and can watch the canal boats slowly passing by, along with the beautiful country sunsets over the area. The minimum stay is 2 nights, you can check in on Mondays, Wednesday or Fridays, except bank holidays and valentines when there is a 3 night minimum stay.

There are plenty of walks and cycle rides to enjoy during your stay, starting right from your front door and leading you all the way into Chesterfield if you want a real stretch. The market towns of Bawtry, Retford and Gainsborough are all within a 15-minute drive too, with their boutique shops and restaurants. Then, there’s the epic Yorkshire Wildlife Park, and the 500-year-old Gainsborough Old Hall to explore. There’s even local a helicopter flying experience – or, if you’d rather keep your feet on the ground, we recommend a look around the beautiful city of Lincoln.
