Water Cottage | A beautiful restored weaver’s cottage in Suffolk’s picture-postcard village of Kersey

We think this is the ideal place to surprise and spoil your partner – it has a look of complete relaxed luxury. Water Cottage has all the history, and wooden beams, to take you back to the past, and it’s set in one of South England’s most beautiful villages. Kersey, a favourite subject for artist’s, will win you over in a moment. It’s a great retreat for Londoners, as it’s only 90 minutes away.

This magnificent timber framed ‘Hall House’ has been carefully restored to its former glory. You enter the cottage into the main room which is divided in two by a central open fireplace that faces the dining area to the right. Straight ahead is the main sitting room with its massive inglenook fireplace and roaring log burner. From here, you can look out over the pretty cottage garden.

We particularly like the beamed bedrooms at Water Cottage. There are three to choose from, making this a good place to come with friends. There are two kingsize doubles and one bunk bedroom with standard size single beds. The bunk room is suitable for two children but only one adult as it is petite and there is not much clothes hanging space.

There is a elegant bathroom with a lovely roll top bath and hand shower. Back downstairs, you can unwind in the snug little coffee room, and cook in the galley kitchen. Meanwhile, outside there is an enclosed garden, which would make a perfect hideout in the evenings, sat out enjoying a meal with a glass of wine.

And then there’s the village – which has got to be up there with the top romantic places in England. Water Cottage is close to the ford in Kersey which is fondly known as ‘The Splash’ and just 50 yards from the pretty local pub which was featured in the ‘Not the Meerkat’ TV commercials.

Well behaved dogs are welcome to stay at the cottage, and they will love the fresh air. There’s not much more than a road, a pub, church and ford, but if you like walking then this is an excellent spot, with many routes out the village and into the Suffolk countryside. Five minutes away is Hadleigh, one of Suffolk’s best Medieval villages with a lovely high street full of independent shops.
