Cosy up by the fire at this hand-crafted retreat, where you can gaze out over some of the UK’s most romantic beaches and hills. Curved Stone House is an ideal place to treat yourself, with its log burning stove, its unique sauna offering guests views of the North West Highland coastline and its wide open bedrooms. It’s a perfect peaceful spot.
Guests will find themselves close to numerous sandy beaches, secluded coastline, secret lochs, and mountain walks, featuring some of the country’s most fantastic scenery. This romantic retreat is only a 70-minute drive from the Highland capital of Inverness, which itself is 90 minutes by plane from London, and easily accessed by other airports including Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.
Plans to build this epic retreat took three years - and the results are beautiful. This curvy gem of a retreat is special from the outside in - with its large rounded edges, huge windows, and grass roof blending it into the countryside.
Inside you’ll find a sitting room, with huge windows overlooking the lively village of Ullapool, and views across to the beautiful waters. With its wood-burning stove, and free logs, this is a perfect place to watch the outside world, as well as those long sunsets and big Scottish skies. There’s free wifi here too, and a host of hi-tech entertainment options.
Just behind here, there is a modern kitchen and dining area, complete with cooker, dishwasher, wine cooler, microwave, a Sage Coffee Machine, a Smeg retro fridge/freezer, and more. And there’s a table and chairs for meals, again with those fabulous views out through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Up a couple of steps and you’ll find your first bedroom. Step into here to find a superking size bed, or twin beds if you prefer, along with double doors, so you can step out in the morning for coffee on the long terrace that runs across the house. Next to the first bedroom you’ll find a brilliant feature in this retreat - your own stunning wood-lined sauna, better than you’d find in many spas, and complete with big views. This opens out into a big modern bathroom with a shower.
Head further into this hideaway and you come to a picture-perfect master bedroom, with a superking sized bed and cosy down duvets. We love how open and natural this space is, with its high wood-beamed ceilings and patio door so you can wake up to the Scottish scenery.
Across from here is the ensuite bathroom, with its huge luxury egg-shaped freestanding bath, for long lazy afternoons soaking up the suds, complete with local Highland soaps and shampoo for your stay. Elsewhere in the house, there’s a handy utility room, including a washing machine, dryer and drying space.
Then, outside, you’ll find a large south westerly seating area on the terrace, with an outdoor dining table. There’s even a barbecue and sun loungers for those long summer days.
Once you’re ready to head out and explore you’ll find that you’re in a great spot for hiking. There is direct access from Curved Stone House to the Ullapool Hill path network, so you can head out to see some of the most scenic areas of Scotland. You are close to several secluded sandy beaches, including Gruinard Bay, Achnahaird, Achmelvich, Clachtoll, and Clashnessie.
The thriving and arty village of Ullapool is a ten minute walk away and features a busy local arts centre (An Talla Solais) and local and national crafts found in Ullapool’s shops and galleries. The area is renowned for its live music too, and there are numerous pubs and restaurants to explore, including a luxury eating experience at The Dipping Lugger restaurant.
