Tinkers Treehouse | A romantic treetop hideaway for couples above the rolling East Sussex countryside

Relax up above the forest floor at this treetop retreat. Tinkers Treehouse is a romantic getaway spot where you can sleep in among the leaves, sip your wine on your own balcony, and enjoy the comfort of luxury in the Sussex countryside. We think it’s a brilliant mix for couples who want a slice of nature served with comfort.

Head down the woodchip path to Tinkers Treehouse and you will find this luxury apartment nestled among the trees. On the ground below, you can spot your own firebowl – perfect for toasting marshmallows and warming hands and toes in the evenings, while looking up at a big night sky.

Step up and off the ground via the wooden staircase and you’ll find yourself in an open plan living space that has been specially designed to cater for couples. There’s a modern kitchen, with an oven and hob, as well as fridge freezer – just right for a chilled out self catering break. Next to this you’ll find the living area, with a chunky leather sofa for kicking back in the evenings – oh and let’s not forget the cosy underfloor heating. And at the far end of the space, by a window peeking through the woodland, you’ll find a king size bed with a trio of feathered lampshades hung above it. There’s also a gorgeous little woodburner, giving the whole space a cosy and romatic feel.

Alongside the main living space, there is a door leading to a modern bathroom, with toilet and showstopper ‘waterfall’ shower.

One of our favourite features at this retreat is the wooden balcony outside. We like the idea of a glass of wine sat on chairs out here, right among the trees.

If you’re up for an adventure, then there are walks right from your front door. For starters, head down to the bottom of Tinkers Treehouse field and you will find yourself at the edge of the beautiful Bewl Water, a reservoir which you can wander around at your leisure.

If you’re an adventurous type, you can paddle board here, or hire a boat. If you’d rather keep your feet on solid ground and enjoy the Sussex countryside some more, there is a path that leads to the sweet village of Ticehurst, with its 13th century award-winning country pub The Bull Inn.

There are great things to glimpse while you’re out here. Head to Bedgebury Pinetum to see the world’s finest conifer collections. It’s a great location for cyclists, with miles of forest trails. There’s even a Go Ape adventure playground if you want to test your head for heights. Or if you’re after something a little more subdued, try the Hawkhurst Fish Farm - a lovely place for a coffee, snack and a bit of peace and quiet in lovely surroundings.

If you fancy checking out local towns you are spoilt for choice, with little pockets of charisma all around you. Some of our favourites include the seaside town of Winchelsea – Britain’s smallest town – with its quaint pebble beach; the historic town of Hastings, with its pier and long coastline, and Tunbridge Wells, with its beautiful architecture and Georgian colonnade.
