The Loft | A tranquil treetop retreat nestled up between the branches of West Woods with views to Lundy Island in Devon

There’s something quite idyllic about the idea of sleeping up above the ground and waking up with fields and fields rolling out like a map beneath you – and if this sparks your imagination too then you will love The Loft. This luxury woodland getaway is handcrafted from larch and pine and designed as a romantic experience in Devon, especially for couples.

Skip up the wooden steps and head inside to find an open plan interior that mixes the modern and the super comfortable. There’s a bedroom with a luxury King Size bed from which you can see the ocean from your pillow. Alongside this, you’ll find a living area with your very own woodburner, for cosy nights in. There’s also an en-suite shower room and toilet, with all your linens and towels included.

The Loft includes hand-made kitchen containing everything you might need for cooking, including a small fridge with freezer in top compartment and two–ring hob and a double oven. The Loft has wifi, and there’s other handy features including access to washing machines, tumble dryer and washing lines. There’s also a shared terrace, garden, barbecue, tennis court, and a surf and bike store, found on the Pickwell Manor site, which is where you will find The Loft.

From this woodland location there’s a myriad places to hop to on adventures around the coast. You can explore Lundy Island, and Baggy Point, just a short hop away, or head to the lovely fishing village of Clovelly and nearby Instow. Seek out the galleries of Appledore, head to Dunster Castle and watermill or Ilfracombe Harbour. For those keen on a round of Golf, you are less than 15 minutes from Saunton Golf Club, with two championship links courses that are amongst the West Country’s finest. Art enthusiasts will enjoy Broomhill Sculpture Gardens. Or, if you like to wander around inspirational gardens, the Royal Horticultural Society’s Rosemoor Gardens is half an hour’s drive away.

There are eateries to suit every taste. The Hideaway’s owners recommend gastro-pub The Rock Inn, which has a great atmosphere. And they tell us their favourite meal in the area was at The Gendarmerie, in Ilfracombe. And while you’re there, you could take a fishing trip or go on a sea safari. You may be able to spot a seal or even a dolphin or porpoise.
