The Gearing | A hot tub cottage for two in Exmoor, Devon

Ice creams, golden beaches and cream teas. Or walks across Exmoor and a drive along rugged cliffs? Devon has it all, so it’s little wonder that it still is one of the country’s favourite holiday destinations. And for that special romantic break in Devon we have found a lovely little spot with glorious countryside views and an outdoor jacuzzi spa pool.

The Gearing is located at Marwood Farm, down a quiet country track near the tiny hamlet of Cove, around 10 minutes from Tiverton. Part of a beautiful old restored barn, this holiday cottage for two is spacious, light and airy. This small setup offers some great features including the shared hot tub.

We love the double height ceiling in the living area with its romantic mezzanine bedroom above. Light floods in through the double doors and you’ll love the rural views from here and the patio area in front. There’s a 40” TV with DVD player so be so be sure to bring your favourite Rom-Com for a rainy night.

The well equipped kitchen is located at the back open plan living room and has a ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. A separate communal utility room provides washing machines and tumble dryer. Upstairs the mezzanine bedroom gives access to the ensuite shower room with WC and basin.

For a romantic meal out we recommend The Swan at Bampton, only 3 miles away from the cottage. It won the 2014 Devon Life Gastro Pub of the Year Award and it certainly lives up to its reputation. The place has managed to strike a nice balance; high quality restaurant food served with friendly service in the relaxed ambiance of a historic pub.

Exmoor National Park is only a hop, skip and a jump away and offers some stunning romantic walks through its varied terrain of heather-covered moorland, wild coastline, oak woodland and tumbling rivers. With over 1000 kilometres of footpaths and bridleways you can imagine why it is widely regarded as one of the best areas for walking in the UK.
