It’s the little things that make all the difference. And Jenny and Owain of The Coach House at The Rookery have certainly got all those little things right. For instance the warm welcome including a tray laden with home-made cakes fresh from the Aga, a variety of of local produce, or the fluffy thick towels and extra-long bathrobes from The White Company.
The Coach House is a little gem, beautifully appointed and inventively laid out. Downstairs you’ll find the fully kitted out kitchen with dining area; light, spacious and great for rustling up a romantic meal for two. A hallway leads to the luxury bathroom where you can relax with a good soak in the roll-top bath with luxury toiletries provided. The calming bedroom with its high ceiling features a super comfy king size bed and flat screen TV. We love the fact that you can wander out through the double doors into your own private garden with outdoor seating. Perfect if you’d like to bring your four-legged friends; up to two well behaved dogs are welcome at this dog friendly cottage in the Cotswolds. The cottage is also suitable for babies up to six months.
Wander upstairs and you’ll be greeted by the galleried living area with comfy sofa, flat-screen hi-definition FreeSat Smart TV and Blu-ray DVD player as well as a music system with iPod dock. The oak beams and vaulted ceilings make for an airy yet cosy feel so you can while away many an hour here.
Jenny and Owain are next door to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and can make recommendations for the best places to eat or visit. They even offer to unpack your online supermarket order if you book a morning slot; great for a stress-free start to your holiday or romantic break in the Cotswolds.
There is so much to see and do in the local area. When staying at The Stables be sure not to miss the beautiful Westonbirt Arboretum where you will find one of the finest tree collections in the world. Planted by Victorian plant hunters it was carefully laid out to form one of the most important arboretums in the country.
But it’s not all gardens. For a luxury treat, Bowood House offers a perfect mix of a spa retreat and championship golf course, set in a Capability Brown landscape. And culinary treats are plentiful too. From the local Old Bell Hotel, one of the finest Cotswold restaurants thanks to Head Chef Daniel Kerr, to The Somerford Arms, an unpretentious, relaxed pub sourcing mainly local food ingredients and supporting neighbouring farms & producers. They also have an extensive range of vegan and vegetarian alternatives with a dedicated Gluten free menu so everyone is catered for.
