This romantic retreat might only be an hour from London, but it could be a thousand miles away – with five acres of woodland, and a myriad of winding paths surrounding a huge reservoir and water views. Coddiwomple Cabin is a great choice for a luxury getaway, where you can enjoy your own private hot tub surrounded by nature. The cabin is within striking distance from Ticehurst, along with the historic seaside town of Hastings and the charming Rye on the coast, making it a great location for exploring the south coastline.
Situated in the peaceful, private woodland of Downash Wood, Coddiwomple cabin has been designed especially for romantics, by owners and creators Stephen and Jane who have added all the touches that make a retreat special.
You will find the cabin between the trees, just next door to the vast reservoir of Bewl Water. Outside, on private decking, there’s the retreat’s very own hot tub, powered by its own toasty burner. You can enjoy a pair of chunky wooden recliners here too, for a leisurely afternoon in the summer sunshine.
Step inside Coddiwomple Cabin, and the space is chic and uncluttered. Little features have been upcycled to add character – for example, the lamps made from cameras and the stag antlers, which were found in nearby woods.
There’s a kitchen area, with oven, hobs and a fridge-freezer, alongside a lovely seating area, perfect for curling up with a book. Keep an eye out for the little welcome treats waiting for your arrival – including coffee, juice, tea and milk.
Separate from this is a king-size bed, with cosy bedside tables, and a gorgeous woodland view to wake up to. And there’s your own modern bathroom, with shower, toilet and some lovely shower essentials.
Parking is available a couple of minutes walk from the cabin. Once you’re ready to head out and explore, you might like to start with a wander on the trails around the adjacent Bewl Water Reservoir. The 800 acre site is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of the High Weald. There’s a 12.5 mile round reservoir route here – perfect for a leisurely cycle.
Days out recommended by the cabin’s owners include a trip to the quintessentially English village of Ticehurst Village, and a drive up to see the 14th century moated grounds of Scotney Castle. Hastings, Rye and Tunbridge Wells are close-by too. Foodies have a choice of good country pubs to peruse – including The Cherry Tree Inn at Dale Hill, with its fantastic garden, and The Bell Inn - Winner of the best pub in the South East in 2017, with its own log fires. Or try the Bull Inn at Three Leg Cross; this great looking old English country pub offers superb food and large gardens for alfresco dining or roaring fires in winter.
