Shepherd’s Cottage | A slice of lake district luxury with a quirky hot tub

This romantic cottage for couples is set in one of the greenest spots in England, the beautiful Eden Valley near the Lake District. This is a little haven of peace, and it makes an ideal romantic getaway. In the walled garden there is a fabulous outdoor roll top bath with views over the surrounding fells - a quirky take on a Lake District hot tub cottage. Shepherd’s Cottage has a historic heritage dating back to the 1500s when it was a lowly cattle barn. It has now been lifted to luxury status by award-winning owners. We think it’s got a lovely relaxed vibe, which makes for a laid back break.

Shepherd’s Cottage has an open plan kitchen and lounge, so you can enjoy the great homely atmosphere from an Aga one side and the warming glow of a woodburning stove on the other. Enjoy the treats inside the champagne welcome hamper, which include award-winning homemade bread and cake from the owner Debbie. “Oh, all right then, we say, if you insist…”

Upstairs, you can relax in a huge bedroom, with a magnificent four poster king-size bed, made by hand from reclaimed timber. From here, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside, under oak beamed rafters. The view from bed goes on for miles, all the way to Blencathra. This cosy cottage is also suitable for a romantic Lake District break with a little one; children under 10 can be accommodated in the Little Room.

Through the doorway is a luxury bathroom with yet another roll top cast iron bath – and plenty of space for two. There’s a large separate shower and views of the cottage garden and the hills.

Outside, your very own cottage style courtyard garden sets the scene perfectly. It’s a great spot to sit outside for lunch and it acts as a beautiful little stepping stone to all the countryside of the Eden Valley. On warm evenings, you can light a fire in the mini kadai fire bowl for a barbecue. Add some logs and watch the flames flicker.

All the modern kitchen conveniences have been added to the cottage for you, but if you fancy a night out for food you can simply wander across the footpath to The Fat Lamb Inn, just a few fields away, or the other two pubs of Ravenstonedale, three miles down the road.
