The beautiful Suffolk English countryside is an ideal place to wind down, with thatched cottages and rose gardens all around. Two hours from London, the rural haven of Stonham Aspal offers green countryside in all directions, along with nearby coastline and days out including the historic cities of Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds and Colchester.

The 15th century Woodfarm House makes a great getaway destination for a romantic couple – with its roaring indoor fire, historic oak beamed ceilings, and luxury hot tub in a private courtyard. For your convenience, there’s also a really smart outside shower, right next to your private hot tub. The thatched cottage has definite English country novel vibes, and with countryside all around you are sure to get a great chance to relax here.

Stepping into the house through its front door, you’ll find yourself in a large farmhouse kitchen, complete with traditional range cooker and butler sink. There’s a solid farmhouse table for a spot of breakfast – and keep your eyes peeled here for a special holiday breakfast basket left as a treat by the cottage owners.

From here, a hall leads to a relaxed sitting room, including an atmospheric inglenook fireplace – perfect for curling up around in the evenings. You’ll find free wifi too, so you can always get in touch with people. The room is enclosed by exposed oak beams, giving it that cosy feel, and there’s a snug little dining room for meals in.

Head up the stairs and you’ll find a bedroom complete with a comfy king-size bed. There’s also a dressing room and a beautiful free-standing roll-top bath.

One of the modern updates at this classic country getaway is the addition of a luxury hot tub, set in an ‘indoor outdoor’ room at the side of an enclosed garden. You can unwind here on lazy days or starry nights, along with enjoying meals made using the cottage’s charcoal barbecue.

The owners at Woodfarm House decided they wanted this romantic retreat to be pet friendly – and it’s so pet friendly that they even include dog treats alongside their local breakfast basket. The retreat accepts three well behaved dogs, and your pets are likely to have the time of their lives, with a full secure two acre meadow to run around in, along with a smaller outdoor run-around they can play in.

We think you’ll find plenty to do while you’re here. The cottage sits on the edge of the quaint village of Stonham Aspal, on the Suffolk Tourist Route – so there are lots of walks to investigate. The cottage owners also offer free bikes so you can adventure down the country lanes.
