Some of the most romantic countryside in the world can surely be found in the picturesque Cotswolds – and this beautiful thatched cottage puts you in a great place to explore all the area has to offer. Bells Cottage is a historic pet friendly hideaway – perfect for couples with their pooch – with enough charm to knock you over. It’s full of modern comfort, with a huge four-poster bed and swish kitchen perfect for time away, all twinned with 500 years of character and a gorgeous English garden.
Bells Cottage can be found in Alderton, a beautiful place to spend time away with a loved one. The village sits on the well-loved Winchcombe Way hiking route – making it a perfect roost for those who love to head out and explore the area on foot – as well as being in the midst of other beloved Cotswolds beauty spots.
Head past the village’s very own medieval church and up to this Grade II listed cottage and you’ll notice the traditional roof thatching, as well as the plants and the hint of the owners’ gardening passion, made all the more clear around the back of the cottage.
Step through the front door and you’ll find a snug living room, laid out in front of a grand fireplace now housing a log-burner-style stove for cosy nights in. With original wooden beams above you, and a comfy sofa with two matching armchairs around you, this is a great place to relax in the evenings. There’s a 32-inch flat screen TV, along with complimentary wifi.
From here, wander through into the kitchen and you can see how the cottage owners have brought the place right up to date to give your holiday all the modern comforts. You’ll find everything from a dishwasher to a Nespresso coffee machine.
One of the features we particularly like in this cottage is the conservatory – a perfect spot to enjoy a romantic meal for two, or to host up to four more friends. This is a lovely place to enjoy breakfast or lunch with a view into your own beautiful English garden. Out here you’ll find teak furniture for alfresco summer days. There is also a lockable external bicycle store, and a small summer-house.
Inside, also on the ground floor, you’ll find a fresh, modern bathroom, with big fluffy towels. Then, up the original wooden staircase you will find your bedroom, complete with historic beamed ceilings, spread out above a super king-size four poster bed. There are sweet village views from here, and inside feels cosy – with polished oak flooring, a wool rug and a TV for lazy mornings.
You will find yourself spoiled for choice for things to do in Alderton. Food lovers don’t have to go far to enjoy their holiday. Owners recommend you try the 16th Century village pub, the Gardener’s Arms, just a few minutes’ walk away, known for its food and selection of fine real ales, artisan gin, wine and local Stanway cider. Stroll three miles and discover The Royal Oak in Gretton – another gastro pub that is hard to fault. If high-end restaurants are more your thing, head four miles out and you reach the Saxon town of Winchcombe, with Number 5 North Street and The Wesley to try.
Bells Cottage is a perfect base to explore the picture-perfect Cotswolds, with its famous villages, Broadway, Burford, Bourton on the Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden plus many many more. There are also big towns about, with Cheltenham, Gloucester and Worcester only a short drive away. Take your pick from the activities around here – from famous walking routes like The Cotswold Way and Winchcombe Way, soak up history at Sudeley Castle, relax at some magnificent pubs and restaurants…. the Cotswolds is an ideal choice for a romantic getaway.
