The Lugger Hotel | One the country's most romantic seaside hotels in Cornwall

We think this is a romantic’s dream and, quite frankly, we want to go back. The Lugger Hotel has been named Best Seaside Hotel by the Sunday Times, and when you see its location on the very edge of Portloe village you will understand why. This pint-sized getaway spot is right on the water’s edge and surrounded by cliffs and headlands which form part of the Cornish Coastal Footpath.

The hotel’s 22 bedrooms are beautifully decorated to be bright and luxurious. They have that fresh style that fits the coastline, with linens and Portuguese woods. Each bedroom includes an en suite bathroom with a deep bath and deluge shower and many have stunning views of the sea or harbour. We would love one of the ones with a balcony.

This is a great place to take your partner if they are into food. The Lugger Hotel has a two AA Rosette restaurant where you can enjoy local produce – including the harbour’s shellfish, lobster and crab. The dining room overlooks the sea, making it a great spot for a romantic evening meal.

Then there’s the spa. If you are looking for a break that helps you unwind then this is definitely a good treat to enjoy, with a whole range of spa therapies to choose from.

This is a popular spot for weddings receptions, because of its romantic charm, and The Lugger Hotel can accommodate weddings for up to 45 guests, with tailor-made packages to suite your exact requirements from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.

If you are looking for a really tranquil escape then the hotel has a surprise up its sleeve. You can arrange to stay in The Hideaway, a charming two bedroom self-catering cottage just across the way, where you can get away from everything but still enjoy all the benefits of a hotel on your doorstep. The Hideaway is set over three floors, with two double bedrooms, both en suite , and a sitting room with dining area and a kitchen. There is also an outside seating area.

We think this is a great spot to come, mostly because the fresh sea breeze is a complete mood-lifter, and this is a hotel that really makes the most of its location. Once you are ready to explore, you will find the South West Coastal Path, for lovely long ambles, and many of England’s most popular attractions - such as the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Maritime Museum of Falmouth – close by.
