Moon Shadow in Cornwall is only a short hop from the coast so your feet can be in the sand mere minutes after stepping out of your front door. It’s an ideal retreat for anyone who likes to finish their days with romantic walks by the sea. This stylish retreat caught our eye, with its white wooden beams and ocean inspired designs. The cottage has a luxurious and decadent feel, ideal for a relaxing few days away in St. Ives. Dog friendly.
Step inside the open-plan living room and kitchen of this luxury St. Ives cottage and you’ll find a glamourous space combining mirrors and lighting with cosy textures and underfloor heating. You can relax on the deep Chesterfield sofa, in front of the 40 inch TV by an electric fireplace. There’s wifi and freeview.
The modern L-shaped kitchen flows on from the living area, and has a compact larder fridge and a breakfast bar dining area, complete with its own Nespresso coffee machine and everything you need for cooking.
Wander upstairs and you’ll find a vast bedroom under rustic wooden rafters. There’s a super king bed, along with flat-screen TV and an adjacent walk-in shower area. We really like the details in this room, with ocean-inspired artwork on the walls, soft lighting and soft bed linen.
Guests can use the cottage’s private parking space for small or medium saloon or estate cars. Larger cars can be parked in private secure parking nearby for an additional charge. The cottage is dog friendly too, with small or medium size dogs welcome for an additional £30.
Moon Shadow is moments away from Porthmeor Beach on the northern side of the town. This is an area known for its thriving artist community. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches in St Ives and a five-minute stroll through the cobbled streets will bring you to Bamaluz, Porthgwidden and the harbour beach, along with dozens of high-quality restaurants, art galleries and craft shops.
There’s plenty to do here. The seafront Tate St Ives gallery has rotating modern art exhibitions, focusing on British artists. Close-by, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, in the modernist artist’s former studio, displays bronze sculptures and other works. Boat trips go to Seal Island, just west of town, to see the seal colony. Moon Shadow’s owners recommend a visit to The Blue Bramble Gallery for paintings, crafts and ceramics, and a spot of beach hopping from Porthminster to Porthemor. This is also a good spot for food lovers – fresh fish restaurants abound. You can also sample morning pastries at the St Ives bakery, try lunch at the Porthminster Kitchen and enjoy evening drinks at The Loft Restaurant, in St Ives’ trendy artist’s quarter.
