Lilac Lodge, near the Norfolk Broads
Long Common Lane

This is exactly the kind of cottage we like – a characterful retreat with a luxury feel and great access to nearby countryside and towns. Lilac Lodge, in the Norfolk village of Swanton Abbot, has been lovingly converted into a holiday escape for couples.
The lodge is all on one level, and has a laid back open plan feel. It is tucked in a peaceful corner of the village and would be a great place to escape for tranquillity seekers.
Inside, there is a sitting area with comfy seating, a widescreen TV and electric effect woodburner; and nearby there is a dining area with table and chairs, so you can enjoy a meal and a glass of wine in the evenings. The exposed red brick gives the room a real look of warmth. You will also find a modern kitchen area with all the modern gizmos. We love its solid, high quality and sophisticated look.
The bedroom is a cosy affair, with a sumptuous double bed. Next to this is the shower room. Lilac Lodge is a sweet little retreat – and its size will appeal to people who want to enjoy their own little corner of the universe.
Outside, there is a courtyard garden with table, chairs and a barbecue, so when the sun is out you can enjoy coffee outside, or a long laid back evening.
There are parking spaces for two cars, and there are plenty of places to explore. Firstly, Swanton Abbott, the home of Lilac Lodge, is a quiet village, and worth a little peek. The capital of The Broads is only five miles away at Wroxham. From there, you can hire a boat to view the miles of waterways. The North Norfolk Heritage Coast and the sandy beaches of Cromer, Mundesley and Holkham are also only a short drive away, as is the fine city of Norwich. And then there is a huge array of restaurants to try. We are tempted by Elm Farm Country House, and the great looking food at The Recruiting Sargeant.
