The beautiful city of Edinburgh is one of our favourites and for a romantic break Holyrood Cottage makes an ideal retreat. This pintsized little sanctuary is nestled by Holyrood Park, in a quiet spot where you can relax. And when you’re ready to see the sights and check out the restaurants, the city’s Royal Mile is just a stone’s throw away.
The cottage is inconspicuous from the street but inside it has been given a Nordic-inspired interior that is likely to bring a smile to your face. The exposed white-washed brick, tongue and groove, and wooden shutters make for an eclectic vibe.
You can relax on Holyrood’s comfy leather sofa with chaise longue which stretches out in front of the cheery wood burning stove. The bedroom is within this same large space – so you can enjoy the toasty fireside feeling at night – and a fully blackout-lined curtain separates the bedroom area from the lounge, ensuring a good night’s sleep. There is a super-kingsize bed, which can be arranged as two singles if preferred. And a travel cot and high chair can be provided for a baby.
The cottage has a bath and shower, and once you are fully freshened up you can head out Holyrood Cottage’s back door and into a bright timber conservatory with seating. There is a patio garden with a table and chairs for a nice morning coffee. And once you are ready to head into the town there is all of Edinburgh to explore…
A short park stroll of less than ten minutes will lead you to Holyrood Palace, the Scottish Parliament and the foot of the Royal Mile leading up to the Castle, with Princes Street, shops and restaurants closeby. You can climb to the top of Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh’s magnificent extinct volcano, or just half way up to check out the view over the city across to the sea, across the Firth of Forth to Fife and beyond.
Shoppers are spoilt for choice, and for food-lovers the city definitely earns its rights as a capital. We recommend a restaurant we’ve been to only recently – try out The Grain Store Restaurant. Big beautiful windows and amazing food.
