Cuil Moss Cottage | A romantic shepherd’s hideaway in the Scottish Highlands perfect for mini-moons

If you are the kind of couple who want a really dramatic escape, and a place that will stay with you, then Cuil Moss Cottage could be the one. It would certainly make an ideal mini-moon destination and we love the star gazing tower with its cosy wood burner (as seen on Channel4’s Amazing Spaces) - perfect for those romantic clear nights. We were won over by the views from this former shepherd’s bothy, with Scotland’s most famous mountains nearby and a whole lot of countryside to explore. Yes please.

Cuil Moss Cottage is nestled down its own driveway under Scots pine trees. The building has been given the full luxury treatment, with a contemporary interior that has kept all the charm of its former life as a croft haven. It’s a place with a relaxing atmosphere, where you can sit back in front of a log burning stove in the living room, with a tweed rug and comfy sofas. There is a free unlimited supply of kindling and wood, so you can have the warmest of evenings even in winter.

There is a spacious kitchen dining room. We recommend you cook up the local shellfish - we’ve never tasted any nicer than that in Scotland. When the weather is fine, you can open the large concertina doors onto the patio area for a barbecue, or a glass of wine outside.

The sunny bedroom enjoys a romantic king-size bed, with luxurious bed linen, and views from the windows, through to the woodland. And, in the bathroom, the luxury theme continues, with an enormous waterfall shower and double ended spa bath.

Once you step outside, you are right among Scotland’s rugged glens, remote beaches, and dramatic scenery. The cottage is five minutes from the Corran ferry, and well placed to explore Salachan Beach, only a stroll away, which captures a stunning view up to Ben Nevis – across to Glencoe and down to the Isle of Mull. There are also the hills and beaches of Ardgour and Ardnamurchan to find, the distilleries to explore, and a whole host of restaurants surrounding Fort William.
