The Old Byre is a beautifully converted luxury cottage for couples near Hexham with its own private hot tub. Situated on a 100-acre farm on the border between Northumberland and County Durham, and nearby a cluster of cosy pubs and walking routes, this is a great spot for a rural break away.
The Old Byre sits close to the historic Roman town of Corbridge, the market town of Hexham, and a myriad of beautiful walking routes including the Derwent Reservoir. A half hour drive away you will also find the buzzing city of Newcastle.
This retreat has a luxury feel with plenty of space for a couple who want time to relax. It recently opened (March 2024) so the whole space feels fresh and new. Step through your front gate and you’ll find a bubbling private hot tub along with outdoor seating in an enclosed garden space - perfect for relaxing in the sunshine.
On entering this retreat you’ll find a living room, complete with a comfy sofa and flat screen Smart TV, all tastefully decorated. Down a couple of steps, you’ll find your own fully-equipped kitchen, including an oven, microwave, hobs, and plenty of space for cooking. Keep your eye out for your own special welcome pack too. Step through into the bedroom and you’ll find a luxury space, complete with a super king size bed, comfy seating and calming decor.
Next you’ll find the en suite bathroom with a beautiful freestanding bath, alongside a modern walk-in shower. Bath robes and towels are also provided. There’s also a laundry room with a washer and tumble dryer, for your convenience, and outside, there’s also private parking for one car.
This is an ideal space to relax. The Old Byre is situated on a rare breed beef farm, so there are Belted Galloways and Aberdeen Angus cattle in the surrounding fields. Bullions Farm owners also specialise in beautiful Clydesdale horses, so look out for this beautiful Scottish breed too.
The farm is just off the A68, conveniently connecting it to many walking and cycling routes, as well as many other pubs and restaurants - we like the look of the Lord Crewe Arms Restaurant in nearby Blanchland.
While you’re here, be sure to explore Alnwick Castle, which dates back to 1309, as well as the open air Beamish Museum which tells the story of North East England. There’s also the World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall - which dates back to the year 122AD. And if you want an evening to remember, head to Kielder Observatory on a clear night to see stunning stars at Kielder Dark Skies - the largest area of protected night sky in Europe.
