Dovenby Cottage | A luxury cottage for couples near Bath in the South Cotswold countryside

This quaint cottage has bags of cheery charm and its size makes it perfect for a loved-up couple. Dovenby Cottage, in the quiet Wiltshire village of Nettleton, is surrounded by country walking opportunities and the thatched cottages of the Cotswolds.

Wake up under Egyptian cotton and silk, in this retreat’s light and luxurious bedroom. Once you’re ready to start your holiday adventures, you can hop into the cottage’s spacious wet room with walk-in shower and luxurious marble tiles. There is a show-stopping cast iron bath for two, and you will be provided with bath robes and complimentary toiletries to complete the experience.

You can cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen diner, where you can also watch TV and listen to music. The owners promise to treat you to a few seasonal surprises too.

When the sun shines, you can head out to the patio to eat, or stay indoors and curl up by the fireside. Alternatively, you can head out and spoil yourself to a meal – there is the Michellin-starred restaurant called Bybrook within walking distance, and an award winning pub a 20 minute walk away in Burton.

Dovenby is a single story building, making it ideal for wheelchair visitors. Guide dogs are welcome and the cottage grounds are safe for children, who are welcome too. There is a double sofabed in the lounge for older children and owners can provide a travel cot for small babies.

Nettleton is a fantastic base to explore, with lots of opportunities for walking, cycling, car racing, and golf. There are walks starting from the doorstep, including a notable short stroll to the sleepy Cotswold village of Castle Combe, where Stephen Spielberg’s movie ‘Warhorse’ was recently filmed, as well as Dr Doolittle in the 60’s.

The cottage owners recommend that you head to the world heritage city of Bath - a beautiful place to visit for the day and only 20 minutes away from Dovenby. It is also worth exploring the 13th century Laycock village, used as the set of numerous period dramas as well as two Harry Potter films. And then you can enjoy beautiful walks through the National Trust’s Dyrham Park, the Avebury stone circle, Stonehenge, Longleat House or Westonbirt Arboretum.
