The Den | A pet friendly romantic Devon woodland treehouse with hot tub near the beach

Set up in the tree canopy of a six-acre estate, The Den is a luxury treehouse that goes beyond any childhood dream. This leafy retreat offers guests the chance to relax in style, with cosy nights in by the wood burner, and starry nights out in the private hot tub. Located in peaceful grounds by a historic manor in Devon, this is a great place to feel far away from any city while having access to all the Devon has to offer. The retreat is pet friendly too!

Pickwell Manor, where The Den is found, offers great views over rolling hills and beautiful coastline. This boutique retreat puts you within a stone’s throw of impressive beaches at Putsborough, Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton. And there’s all of Exmoor to hike through, making this a great place to get some fresh air.

Park up at the base of The Den, and you’ll find yourself by a large wooden staircase, winding up to the retreat itself. Up here you’ll find a large balcony, wrapping the treehouse, where you can enjoy hanging around up in the trees.

Step inside and you’ll find a chic Scandi-designed interior, with lots of natural wood and clean lines, and making this a stylish holiday home. There is The Den’s living space, complete with comfy sofas and a wood burning stove – as well as some extra underfloor heating to keep things extra cosy. There’s complimentary superfast fibre internet running through the treehouse too.

Alongside this living space, you’ll find your kitchen area, complete with everything you might need for cooking while you’re away. We love how the windows here look straight out into the trees. The owners tell us that when the sun is shining you can open sliding full-length glass doors onto the balcony and let the outside in.

From here, you can step into the master bedroom, complete with king size bed and a few handmade furniture pieces that add some natural charm – for example, the wardrobe, with its custom-built shelves.

Next to here, you’ll find a bunk room, complete with two adult-size bunk beds. So if you’re away with a couple of friends or a couple of children, they will be able to sleep in full comfort. The Den’s owners also allow one well-behaved dog at this retreat too.

There’s a compact shower room, with big geometric tiles, and a separate toilet room, with more views of the trees visible through the treehouse windows.

Outside on the balcony terrace, The Den’s owners have included cushioned reclining seats, for relaxing, and a gas-fired barbecue for a spot of al fresco cooking. We especially like the outside breakfast bar, facing into the treehouse, where you can chat through the wide opening window.

Last but not least, one of this retreat’s standout features is its large bubbling hot tub, which is big enough for four. You can find this down a handful of steps on your own spa level. This gives you the chance to lie back in complete luxury.

There’s plenty to do while you’re at The Den. Alongside the beaches and hiking opportunities nearby, you’ll find many who love to surf flock to Devon’s beaches. Art lovers would enjoy seeing Broomhill Sculpture Gardens, while gardening fans can seek out RHS Rosemoor.

You have a great choice of foodie places to sample while you’re away too. There are two well-loved pubs in Georgeham Village, including the centuries old Rock Inn, with a great atmosphere and good food. The Den’s owners also recommend Newcoast Kitchen, in nearby Croyde, and the posh multi-award winning Woolacombe restaurant NC noel corston.
