This country escape puts you in the middle of the Welsh fields of Carmarthenshire, close to Pembrokeshire, as well as the coastal city of Swansea and the gorgeous Brecon Beacons Area of Outstanding Beauty, where you’ll find countless walks and a host of great views. The cabin is less than five hours from London, but feels more like 5,000, making it a great choice for a break from the capital. Its owners have made this place comfortable enough to impress even the most modern city-dwellers.

Once you’ve parked up at this retreat, you’ll notice the meadows, and the surrounding woodland with its many horse chestnut trees. The cabin is set on a family-run farm, and this cedar-clad getaway they created is a treat that lets others experience the valley that they love.

Step inside Chestnut Cabin and you’ll first find a spacious living room, complete with a comfy sofa, rocking chair and wood-burning stove, which comes with complimentary wood. Patio doors make this a light and bright space, and the natural wood running throughout the cabin makes the retreat feel relaxed too. The cabin doesn’t have wifi but there’s a 3G mobile phone signal, meaning you won’t be cut off.

Along from here, you’ll find a modern kitchen and dining room, with everything you might need for cooking while you’re away, and a table set for four.

Step on through and you’ll come to the master bedroom with its comfy king size bed. This room has a classic country look and, with only the tiny birds outside to bother you, you’re sure to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.

The second bedroom contains a bunk bed, making this an easy choice if you’re bringing children or a couple of friends along with you. We love the sunny yellow decor in here. The cabin also includes a modern bathroom, with power shower, and more country views too.

Meanwhile, outside, you’ll love the garden hot tub. Here, you can enjoy the bubbles whatever the weather, and if it’s evening this is a very sophisticated way to see the stars. The garden here includes a couple of other delights too – firstly the lovely flowers, but also the pizza oven, and your own picnic table, making this a great place to enjoy a spot of lunch outside.

Once you’re ready to head out exploring there are plenty of options for you to try. The cabin’s owners recommend visiting at least one of the incredible castles found all over the peninsula – we think you’ll like the rather striking Laugharne Castle, which was first built in 1116. The nearby towns of Cardigan and Narberth are a great choice if you enjoy independent boutiques and shops, and the beaches at Tenby and Saundersfoot are well worth a visit too.

While you’re on your travels, you can enjoy some great foodie options. Chestnut Cabin owners recommend the hearty Fox and Hounds pub, and, if you’re looking for something a bit fancy, there’s the family-run Y Polyn to try in Carmarthen too.
