We love The Old Roller Shed! With its clean, contemporary lines and quirky features this boutique retreat is perfect for a romantic break in The Lake District, especially if you’re a foodie. Located in the upmarket village of Cartmel, you can stroll to some fabulous pubs, cafes and restaurants, including l’Enclume - the only three Michelin starred restaurant north of the home counties.
Originally built to house the council’s steam rollers used for road maintenance, today The Old Roller Shed has been transformed into a sleek, five star open plan retreat finished to the highest standards.
Downstairs you will find a stylish open plan living area with a contemporary corner sofa, Smart TV, Bluetooth speaker and underfloor heating. The large bifold doors give the space a light and airy feel and there are remote controlled blinds for added privacy.
The sleek kitchen offers everything you may need during your romantic break in the Lake District; an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. The breakfast bar is a great place to enjoy a lazy breakfast or romantic dinner. The contemporary shower room features a fabulous walk-in monsoon shower, bathrobes and complimentary luxury toiletries. And the utility area even has a washing machine and dryer - allnperfect for longer stays in Cartmel.
Make your way up the amazing floating steel and oak staircase and you will be greeted by the gorgeous bedroom on the mezzanine. This luxurious room with super comfy king-size bed and TV with DVD player has some great views across the fields towards the village with the famous Carmel Priory taking pride of place.
Outside there is private off-road parking - something pretty rare in Cartmel - and some lovely outdoor furniture so you can soak up some rays in the south-facing garden area.
There is so much to see and do in this area. And you don’t have to go far either; Cartmel is one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District with some great cafes - try Coffee & Stays in Cartmel square (also great for delicious breakfasts and you’ll receive a 10% discount). We like The Royal Oak for their Sunday Lunch and in-house microbrewery. For more formal dining options try Simon Rogan’s Rogan & Co. or of course the highly acclaimed l’Enclume. And don’t forget to sample the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee pudding which you can buy from the old post office; try it as a desert or a very indulgent breakfast treat!
Cartmel is also well known for its horse races and this is a great time to visit if you like the hustle and bustle or it all. The woods beyond the race course are also a perfect place to go for a leisurely walk and a must-see in May when the bluebells are out.
The nearby small seaside town of Grange-over-Sands is a like stepping back in time with lots of small independent shops and a lovely promenade along Morecambe Bay. Lake Windermere is only a short drive away and you can hop on a lake cruise from Lakeside and travel to Bowness or Ambleside - the perfect way to experience the Lakes.
