England
This idyllic woodland retreat in the Sussex village of Danehill is the perfect romantic escape providing guests with a tranquil setting to truly relax and unwind, surrounded by the glorious countryside. The Nest has been stunningly interior designed to provide a comfortable, luxurious, and cosy hideaway, a home from home, less than an hour from London by train. Located within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the edge of the 6,500-acre Ashdown Forest, home to Winnie the Pooh, you will enjoy a myriad of walking and cycling opportunities. Maps are provided to get your outdoor adventures started.
Leave your car on the drive, and head up to this tucked away fully self-contained cottage, and you’ll find a calming, bright, open-plan space with large French windows allowing you to admire the inspiring woodland views - a short stroll away over the bridge of a babbling brook. The award-winning and unspoilt Coach & Horses gastro pub is a popular place for foodies and just 2 mins walk up the lane so no need to drive.
The first feature you’ll notice in The Nest is the sumptuous four poster king size bed, with its Egyptian cotton bed linen and goose down duvet and extremely comfortable deep pocket sprung mattress. There is a cosy sitting room area with a double sofa bed - perfect for relaxing in the evening, and great if you have another couple or kids staying too. If you fancy a cosy night in there’s board games, a 32” Smart TV with Netflix streaming option and selection of DVDs. Fast full-fibre Wi-Fi keeps you connected - and while the technology is up to date here, we love how this retreat has been given a natural theme, with oak flooring and plenty of green leafy plants and a treehouse style first floor entrance.
The stylish dining area includes a wooden table and upholstered chairs for those long candlelit dinners. Downstairs you’ll find your kitchen, with your own Nespresso coffee machine, along with a cooker, fridge, and all the extras you need to whip up a meal while you are away. There is a breakfast bar with seating for two next to the French windows downstairs - so you can enjoy your Cappuccino overlooking the garden and woods.
The cottage includes a marble tiled bathroom, with a double ended bath, overhead rainwater shower, waterfall taps, handheld shower, and a towel rail. Little extras, like fluffy Christy towels, waffle dressing gowns, shower gel, shampoo, hand soap and hairdryer are all provided for you. There’s an ironing board and iron and plenty of storage space.
Outside, you can enjoy listening to the birdsong in your own private garden, with seating right by a pear tree - and feel free to enjoy the pears when they are in season too!
You’ll find plenty of things to do in the area from visiting the Bluebell Steam Railway to Wakehurst National Trust House and Gardens or a concert at Trading Boundaries in Sheffield Park. Discover the charming historic villages of Forest Row, Hartfield and Lindfield, all within a 15 mins drive. We recommend the arty town of Lewes, which is around 25 minutes away, and is full of quirky shops, galleries, and foodie places. Glyndebourne Opera House is 30 mins and vibrant Tunbridge Wells and Brighton Marina are within 45 mins.
Danehill is ideally located on the borders of East and West Sussex, so you can easily reach some of the South of England’s best beaches in under an hour and there are the beautiful rolling hills and chalk cliffs of the South Downs to explore too.
