Amity at Pickwell Manor | A romantic Devon holiday cottage near the beach

Amity is a pint-sized, picture perfect hideaway for two and offers the perfect retreat in North Devon. Located in the grounds of the impressive Pickwell Manor with its beautiful gardens and stunning views, this romantic cottage is only a stone’s throw from the beach. What makes it extra special is its seclusion and privacy, ensuring you will have the ‘get away from it all’ feeling during your break.

This beautiful cottage has been carefully renovated and remodelled, making the most of its modest footprint. And in keeping with its location, it has been decorated and furnished in a light and airy style with white washed walls, painted floor boards, pieces of drift wood and even the odd pebble. Think beach hut meets boutique hotel.

Downstairs you’ll find the open plan living area with well kitted out kitchen, a cute dining area for two and a comfy sofa to relax on. For those cosy evenings there is a flatscreen TV with DVD player so you can watch your favourite films together and enjoy a glass of wine.

Go up the quirky ladder style stairs (you will get used to them, we promise) and you’re on the mezzanine floor with a double bed cosy under the eaves.

We love the handmade pieces like the bespoke bannister, dust sheet blinds, the chunky coffee table and the window made out of multi coloured old glass bottles. Even the cute bathroom with walk in shower has been personalised with pebbles found at the local beach.

Outside you have the benefits of staying at Pickwell with its shared terrace, garden, BBQ, tennis court, surf/bike store and games room on site. There is also access to washing machines, tumble dryer and washing lines.

The gardens are some of Pickwell’s most enchanting features. The six acres offer some stunning countryside and sea views and are divided into an Italian garden, a walled garden with orchard, a decked area perfect for barbecues and woodlands with meandering paths - all there for you to enjoy.

North Devon is famous for its golden beaches and the Manor makes a perfect base for you to explore them. Putsborough Sands is only a short five minute drive away or if you fancy you can even take a romantic walk down through the fields from your base at Amity.

Nearby Georgeham has a village shop handy for your daily needs, historic pubs, and a Post Office.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to days out. Popular with Victorian and Edwardian seaside lovers, the small towns of Lynton and Lynmouth are worth a visit. Barnstaple is a larger town and offers good shopping with some nice independent shops. For art lovers the towns of Ilfracombe and Appledore offers some good galleries. There are plenty of National Trust properties and of course the wild Exmoor National Park is on your doorstep. So much do do, so little time…
