Abbey Stables | A Cornish romantic cottage for couples tucked away in Penzance’s old maritime heart

We love quaint harbour hideaways and fresh walks by the sea – and this romantic retreat offers the best of both worlds. The Abbey Stables is tucked away in a quiet conservation area, a stone’s throw from the harbour-side in atmospheric Penzance, yet only a couple of minutes walk to Chapel Street, with its electic mix of shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants and cafes. If you fancy a car free holiday, it is a 5 minute walk to the train and bus station too. Check out this video to get an idea of what makes Abbey Stables so special »

This recently renovated hideaway offers spacious, stylish and characterful accommodation, ideal for couples, with views onto its own tranquil, south facing, cobbled courtyard garden.

It is reputed that in the past mule trains bringing ore from St Just were stabled here and the cobbled courtyard formed part of the old Tinners Way.

Enter through the stylish refurbished kitchen, with oak worktops, ceramic hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine.

There is a luxurious shower-room, which features a hydro-shower with monsoon showerhead and massage jets.

Up three steps is the attractive beamed living and dining area, where you can relax by the fireplace overlooking the courtyard garden. The dining table is set beside an opening stable door. The room is spacious and well lit, with areas for reading and enjoying a glass of wine in the evenings.

Pass into the cosy, beamed bedroom via a stained glass panelled door, to find a king-sized painted bedstead with luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen.

Outside in the attractive courtyard garden there are table and chairs for alfresco dining. Or, if you fancy an evening out, stroll five minutes down the road and discover more than 30 pubs, restaurants, bars and cafes.

Abbey Stables provides the perfect base to explore West Cornwall and enjoy the dramatic coastal scenery, lush sub-tropical gardens, quality dining and vibrant art scene. Nearby there are neolithic landscapes, St Michaels Mount, St Ives, Lands End and intimate coves.

Penzance’s Art Deco salt water baths and sea-front promenade are just two minutes away and Penzance railway and bus stations are within a five minute walk. You can also bring your car, with parking outside.
