Fancy something different? Try this romantic barge in Woodbridge, Suffolk

This week we’ve been talking to Carl Scott, owner of Woodfarm Barns and Woodfarm Barges in lovely Suffolk. We’ve known Carl for a while now and he has been advertising his fabulous properties on our site for quite some years.

It all started for Carl with the creation of some very romantic hot tub cottages next to his beloved Woodfarm House. It was a huge project but once this was finished Carl was looking for his next challenge. Here’s what he had to say about this exciting new venture:

“Having built my romantic holiday cottage business over the last decade I was looking for a way to expand. We’d built a reputation for quality within the couples market, combined with a real dog-friendly approach so I wanted to capitalise on that. I love the water and am a keen ‘boatman’ so there seemed one obvious way to be able to offer something different, quirky and exciting.

I decided upon a romantic holiday cottage with a difference. An historic Dutch Barge! Actually I bought two but the other is huge and ideal for family or friend groups. But ‘Twee Gebroeders’ is the perfect floating romantic holiday cottage. So much so, that she featured in ‘The Times’ in February 2018, in their list of ‘Love Nests; Perfect places for couples’!

She is moored by the iconic Tidemill in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Just 25 minutes from my barns and my large barge at Snape Maltings, giving me this wonderful little ‘Bermuda Triangle’ in Suffolk, where I divide my time.

‘Twee Gebroeders’ has an open plan ‘saloon / galley’, or kitchen, lounge, diner to you and I. She has a lovely shower room and a cosy double cabin. There’s also a twin cabin but this quirky holiday really lends itself to couples looking for a romantic holiday cottage with a difference.

Fully insulated and installed with a domestic central heating system, she can be enjoyed all year round. You’ll hardly feel yourself floating as she is in a relatively sheltered position on the beautiful River Deben, and weighs almost 40 tons, so you don’t need to concern yourself with sea-sickness!

Woodbridge itself has lots of romantic restaurants, as well as pretty walks along the river, directly from the quay, so if you’re looking for a romantic holiday cottage in Suffolk, with a twist, then a weekend or midweek break aboard ‘Twee Gebroeders’ could be just the thing for you.

It’s been great fun expanding Woodfarm Barns into Woodfarm Barges too and we have had so much amazing feedback. You never know, I might buy another one!”
